is a poor fisherman. When the gods bless him with a pearl
of unimaginable beauty his dreams for his family can finally
be realized. The world he knows and trusts starts to disintegrate
as people from his village gossip and judge, while people
of better fortune -- his doctor, his priest, the pearl buyers
-- wear masks of friendship as they deceive and manipulate
him. Soon Kino and his family must flee in order to survive
and protect their newfound wealth. Driven to a primal state
